Risk is decided before the order is sent.
A profitable-looking setup can still damage an account when the position is too large. Risk management connects a market thesis to a maximum acceptable loss before fees, funding, slippage and exchange failure make the real outcome less predictable.
Start with account risk
Choose the maximum percentage of available trading capital that may be lost if the stop is filled. This is not the margin deposited and it is not the notional size of the position. Risk-based sizing divides the allowed loss by the percentage distance between entry and stop, then applies the platform's hard maximum-margin and leverage limits.
Use structural stops
The stop should sit where the trade thesis is invalidated, allowing for the normal volatility of the market. Selecting a stop only because it produces a larger position or prettier risk/reward ratio reverses the process. If the valid stop is too far away, reduce position size or skip the trade.
Treat leverage as a ceiling
Leverage reduces the margin required for a given notional position and accelerates liquidation risk. It should be capped independently from per-trade risk. Crypto Pulse uses a 10× default ceiling when a member has not saved another supported value, but the appropriate setting depends on the exchange, market, stop distance and trader's circumstances.
Limit correlated and daily exposure
Several altcoin positions may behave like one larger BTC or ETH bet during a broad market move. Maximum concurrent positions, allowed markets and a daily loss stop help prevent repeated signals from accumulating hidden exposure. Isolated margin can limit the margin assigned to an individual position, but it does not prevent losses or remove exchange risk.
Frequently asked questions
What is risk per trade?
It is the maximum planned account loss if the entry and stop fill as expected, before unexpected slippage or exchange failure.
Is isolated margin always safe?
No. It limits allocated margin but a position can still be liquidated and lose the full isolated amount.
Why use a daily loss limit?
It pauses new exposure after a defined threshold and helps prevent several correlated losses from compounding.
Do published signal percentages equal my account return?
No. Account results depend on position size, execution, fees, funding, slippage and portfolio overlap.
